Why is self-knowledge important?

Back in the good old days, philosophers talked about the importance of self-knowledge. In more modern times psychologists see the value in self-knowledge. It can help you improve your life by looking at your decisions, desires, wants, needs, goals, and emotions.

Trying to read some philosophy book about the importance of self-knowledge can be boring, so we thought we could spice it up a bit!

“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” Aristotle

Self-knowledge can be called finding your ‘true self’. It is a common understanding that discovering information about yourself can be tough. Many times it is hard for us to see many of our bad habits. For example, if we write a paper we are always told to get a second pair of eyes. The paper may seem fine to us but we do not see all its flaws, so we get someone to read it and find out that it was not as perfect as we thought.

The easiest way to figure ourselves out is by our closest friends. They are willing to tell us like it is. It is always easy for us to spot the personality types in others, their likes and dislike, and their mannerisms. If we try and do this for ourselves it is much more difficult.
